Job Description

Leads structural design and oversight for infrastructure projects across the Horn of Africa, producing safe and durable solutions. The engineer assesses site and geotechnical conditions, develops designs and tender documentation, supports construction quality, resolves technical issues, and coordinates structural work with architectural, geotechnical and MEP teams for successful project delivery.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Review site conditions, surveys, geotechnical reports and environmental data to identify design constraints
  • Assess soil properties, bearing capacity and site risks for foundation and structural-system decisions
  • Perform structural analysis and design for buildings and civil works under relevant load combinations
  • Prepare drawings, calculations, reports, specifications and bills of quantities
  • Provide technical input to tender documents and clarify technical queries during bidding
  • Review shop drawings, method statements and material submissions during construction
  • Coordinate structural solutions with architectural, geotechnical and MEP disciplines

Role Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in civil engineering, structural engineering or a related discipline with at least five years of relevant experience, or a bachelor's degree with at least seven years
  • Professional experience in structural design of buildings and civil works, including reinforced-concrete or steel design and analysis
  • Experience preparing structural drawings, design reports and bills of quantities
  • Experience using structural design software such as ETABS, SAP2000, SAFE, Robot or equivalent
  • Valid practicing professional structural-engineering license
  • Fluent English
  • Fluent Amharic

Desired Criteria

  • Experience in infrastructure or public-facility projects
  • Experience with international design standards
  • Experience working with the United Nations
