Job Description

Provides field-based technical support for UNHCR energy programming across Kakuma and Kalobeyei. The role monitors renewable-energy projects, coordinates implementing partners and local stakeholders, supports clean-cooking and solar initiatives, and translates field data into reports, recommendations and capacity-building activities for sustainable refugee and host-community services.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Conduct field visits to monitor solar electrification, electric-cooking and operations-and-maintenance projects
  • Maintain activity trackers and dashboards and flag implementation delays, risks and mitigation measures
  • Monitor contractor and partner delivery, solar-system performance and maintenance gaps
  • Prepare weekly and monthly technical monitoring reports and contribute to Situation Reports
  • Coordinate training for refugee and host-community youth on solar systems and electric cooking devices
  • Support solarisation of boreholes and water infrastructure with the WASH section
  • Engage government, NGO, private-sector and community partners as UNHCR's field-level energy focal point

Role Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with four years of relevant experience or Master's degree with two years in renewable energy, energy engineering, environmental science, sustainable development or a closely related field
  • At least two to four years of relevant professional experience in renewable-energy project implementation, monitoring or coordination
  • Demonstrated familiarity with solar-energy systems including design, installation and operations and maintenance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

Desired Criteria

  • Humanitarian, development or integrated-settlement experience
  • Experience with clean cooking, productive use of energy or market-based energy approaches
  • Experience in refugee settings, remote arid operational environments or integrated development contexts
  • Knowledge of the Kalobeyei Integrated Socio-Economic Development Plan and refugee self-reliance frameworks
