Job Description

UNHCR seeks a Khmer retainer interpreter supporting its Thailand representation. The assignment translates registration, refugee-status determination, resettlement and protection material; interprets interviews, counselling, information sessions and telephone inquiries; records calls in proGres; and provides interpretation and translation services for UNHCR staff and resettlement delegations.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Translate registration, refugee-status determination, resettlement and protection documents between Khmer and English
  • Interpret protection interviews and counselling sessions for asylum seekers and refugees
  • Interpret protection information sessions, briefings and training sessions
  • Interpret telephone inquiries and report each call for recording and follow-up
  • Interpret and translate written reports and oral discussions as needed
  • Provide other interpretation and translation support requested by supervisors

Role Requirements

  • Proven ability to communicate proficiently between Khmer and English through accurate listening, speaking, reading, writing and reporting
  • Professional conduct and ethics in interpretation and translation services
  • For G4, one year relevant experience with high-school diploma, or bachelor degree or higher
  • Computer literacy
  • Required Khmer language capability

Desired Criteria

  • Prior interpretation or translation experience is desirable
