Job Description

This Paris-based UNEP consultancy leads the Global Demand Flexibility Accelerator, developing strategy, national roadmaps and enabling market pathways for low-carbon energy systems. The expert advises governments, utilities, regulators and standards bodies, coordinates global partnerships, and mobilizes resources for practical, resilient demand-side flexibility.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Lead technical design and initial implementation of the Global Demand Flexibility Accelerator
  • Lead technical and policy engagement with governments and power-sector institutions in priority countries
  • Develop a UNEP methodology for national demand-side-flexibility roadmaps
  • Represent UNEP with ministries, regulators, planning agencies, utilities and standards institutions
  • Advance standards pathways for interoperable energy systems, buildings and appliances
  • Provide technical guidance on market arrangements, procurement, consumer safeguards and flexible energy resources
  • Coordinate partnerships with IRENA and other international technical partners
  • Develop funding proposals and resource-mobilisation strategies

Role Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in environmental science, international relations, political science, public policy, economics or engineering
  • At least 10 years of progressively responsible energy-sector experience
  • Experience leading international programmes, advising governments and coordinating multi-country initiatives and partnerships
  • Thorough familiarity with project-management best practices
  • Fluent written and oral English
