Assistant Environment Officer

Supports UNHCR Somalia to integrate environmental safeguards and climate resilience across housing and settlement interventions. The Officer conducts site assessments, monitors environmental management plans and contractor compliance, mitigates construction risks, leads field monitoring, trains partners and coordinates technical inputs for environmentally sound delivery.

• Conduct environmental screening and site-level assessments
• Support implementation and monitoring of environmental management plans
• Identify risks linked to construction, drainage, sanitation and waste management
• Monitor contractor and partner compliance with safeguards
• Conduct field visits and prepare compliance reports
• Train staff, contractors and communities on environmental safeguards
• Coordinate with engineers, authorities and implementing partners

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental management, natural resource management, civil or environmental engineering, climate change, geography or related field
• Four to five years of environmental safeguards, infrastructure monitoring, shelter, WASH or humanitarian-development experience
