Job Description

This UN Youth Volunteer assignment supports UNOPS circular-economy and waste-management programming in Pakistan. It combines environmental project support with research, resource mobilisation, partner engagement and communications, helping monitor initiatives, develop proposals, map funding and stakeholders, and document outcomes for sustainable procurement and municipal resource recovery.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Monitor and track environmental project activities on plastic-waste reduction, circular value chains, sustainable infrastructure design and waste-to-resource management
  • Conduct baseline studies, market assessments and policy mapping on circular-economy frameworks, extended producer responsibility and sustainable procurement
  • Gather field data, metrics and progress indicators for waste-management, recycling and community-led circularity initiatives
  • Map funding opportunities, climate funds, donors, development banks and private-sector partners
  • Assist with concept notes, donor proposals, logical frameworks and budgets for environment and infrastructure initiatives
  • Monitor tenders, calls for proposals and strategic funding windows across national and regional environment sectors
  • Organise technical working groups, donor briefings and consultations with authorities, civil society, waste-picker associations and recyclers
  • Draft project updates, donor reports and case studies and integrate youth perspectives into programming

Role Requirements

  • Education in environmental science, environmental engineering, circular economy, international development or a relevant field
  • Relevant experience in environmental management, circularity, plastic waste, grant writing or business development
  • Strong interest in sustainable procurement, infrastructure resilience and practical project execution

Desired Criteria

  • Familiarity with proposal drafting, pitch deck development or fundraising research

  • Volunteer assignment via UNV
  • PKR 105,091 monthly Volunteer Living Allowance covers housing, utilities and normal cost of living expenses
  • Life, health and permanent disability insurance is included, with health insurance for up to three dependents
  • Final repatriation, where applicable, and resettlement allowance are provided for satisfactory service
