Job Description

Builds FAO's divisional roster of technical specialists who can support social-protection systems, resilient rural livelihoods and inclusive climate action. Assignments may develop policy, analytical and knowledge products; design and deliver social-protection programmes, training and information systems; mobilise resources; and provide technical quality assurance across FAO projects and partnerships.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Develop analytical and guidance products on social protection
  • Provide technical and operational support for social-protection policy and programme design
  • Support development of social-protection information systems
  • Design and deliver social-protection training
  • Represent FAO in external forums, coordination platforms, workshops and conferences
  • Write research, reports and knowledge products
  • Develop proposals and partnership resource-mobilisation materials
  • Review and assure the quality of project and programme materials

Role Requirements

  • Technical university degree or certificate for PSAs, or an advanced university degree for consultants, in political science, social policy, development studies, disaster management, economics, institutional development or related social sciences
  • Relevant experience in social protection, socio-economic analysis, policy assistance and capacity building: at least one year for Category C, five years for Category B, or ten years for Category A
  • Working knowledge of English

Desired Criteria

  • Country-based experience strengthening social-protection systems for rural populations and linking them to agricultural or climate policies
  • Experience developing knowledge products that inform social-protection-system design and reform
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams
  • Field experience across more than one location or area of work
