Job Description

Leads the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme in São Tomé and Príncipe, overseeing grant portfolios, budgets and country-programme delivery. The coordinator supervises the programme team, steers partnerships with civil society and government, supports grantees and monitors results so locally led environmental initiatives deliver durable climate, biodiversity and livelihood benefits.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Supervise the country-programme team and coordinate the National Steering Committee
  • Develop annual workplans, budgets and performance objectives
  • Formulate and update the Country Programme Strategy
  • Manage grant allocations and operating budgets in line with programme procedures
  • Oversee project concepts, grant implementation and field monitoring
  • Coordinate civil-society, community and partner engagement
  • Mobilise resources and develop programme and project partnerships
  • Report on programme implementation, finance, audit and results

Role Requirements

  • Advanced degree in environmental or natural resource management, economics, public policy, law, environmental economics or management, business administration or a related field, or a first-level degree with additional qualifying experience
  • At least two years of relevant professional experience managing environmental or natural-resource-management projects or initiatives
  • Fluency in English and Portuguese
  • Nationality of the designated duty station

Desired Criteria

  • Progressively responsible project or programme management experience at national or international level
  • Experience designing, managing or monitoring UNDP programmes or development projects using results-based management
  • Experience in GEF Small Grants Programme thematic areas
  • Knowledge of UNDP strategic programmes and operational policies
  • Experience liaising with NGOs, civil-society organisations, government and other actors
