Job Description

Leads management of IUCN's Wildlife Manager and Ranger Training Programme within the SADC Transfrontier Conservation Area Financing Facility. The Programme Officer manages training grants, workplans and donor reporting, supports proposal assessment and capacity building, coordinates with governments and partners, and advances biodiversity conservation, governance and regional financing.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Lead management and coordination of the Wildlife Manager and Ranger Training Programme
  • Assess training needs and develop priorities and strategies for SADC transfrontier conservation areas
  • Lead workplan and budget preparation, implementation and monitoring
  • Appraise, score and select training proposals and oversee training-grant contracts
  • Support calls for proposals, project review and grant management for the Financing Facility
  • Organize field visits and spot checks to support grantees and monitor compliance
  • Manage technical and financial reporting and communicate programme results to stakeholders

Role Requirements

  • Advanced degree in natural-resources management, biodiversity conservation, environmental policy and management, development studies or a related field
  • At least 7 years of relevant biodiversity conservation, natural-resources management, programme management or grant-management experience
  • Experience managing grant programmes or large donor-funded projects
  • Fluency in written and spoken English

Desired Criteria

  • Monitoring and evaluation experience
  • Transboundary conservation and SADC TFCA experience
  • Portuguese language proficiency
