The senior mining specialist will support the World Bank’s infrastructure work in India by providing technical leadership on mining-sector policy, operations and investment. The role will advise clients and project teams, contribute specialist analysis and dialogue, and help shape sustainable, responsible mining solutions that support development, environmental performance and local economic outcomes.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Lead World Bank support to India’s National Critical Minerals Mission
  • Lead a multisectoral task team engaging government and private-sector partners
  • Provide policy and technical advice to federal and state governments
  • Develop mining-sector lending and advisory approaches for resilient mineral supply chains
  • Align field-based staff, regional leadership and Washington colleagues
  • Build integrated public- and private-sector investment opportunities
  • Present to World Bank management and external stakeholders
  • Mentor junior staff

Role Requirements

  • Master’s degree or higher in a mining-related discipline including extractive metallurgy, ore processing, separation, smelting, refining or primary-material production
  • At least eight years of professional experience advising governments at senior level on economic policy, infrastructure, natural resources, mining or related strategic sectors
  • Significant experience in mining-sector or minerals-value-chain policy, regulation and institutional reform
  • Demonstrated trusted advisory engagement with senior government officials on minerals-value-chain development
  • Strong organisational, analytical and communication skills to manage competing priorities across time zones
  • Fluency in English

Desired Criteria

  • Master’s-level degree in finance or project management with mining or minerals-value-chain transaction experience
  • Experience in processing and refining rare earths, cobalt, lithium, copper or other critical minerals
  • Experience advising governments or international institutions on Asia-focused minerals engagements
  • Understanding of India’s critical-minerals landscape, institutional frameworks and political economy
