Job Description
The Senior Forestry Officer leads FAO technical policy and programme work on forest biodiversity and dryland landscapes. Based in the Forestry Division in Rome, the role guides sustainable forest management, supports countries, coordinates biodiversity and dryland commitments, develops partnerships and resource mobilisation, and provides strategic leadership across forestry, climate and agrifood-system initiatives.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Lead biodiversity mainstreaming in forestry and dryland landscapes
- Coordinate country support, capacity development and policy advice
- Lead technical work on forest biodiversity conservation and sustainable production
- Coordinate forestry inputs to biodiversity and desertification frameworks
- Manage strategic partnerships with institutions, NGOs, donors and private-sector actors
- Oversee secretariat services for the Dryland Forests working group
- Mobilise and manage programme and project resources
Role Requirements
- Advanced university degree in forestry, natural resources or a related field
- Ten years of relevant forestry or natural-resources-management experience
- Working knowledge of English
- Intermediate knowledge of another official FAO language
Desired Criteria
- Work experience in more than one location or field position
- Experience translating international frameworks into policies and field frameworks
- Experience in integrated landscape planning
- Experience supporting governing or statutory bodies
- Experience managing large multi-country programmes
