Job Description

Provides global technical, policy and programme support for UNDP’s Global Fund for Coral Reefs portfolio. The specialist manages delivery and partnerships, advances coral-reef conservation and innovative finance solutions, guides country programmes and resource mobilisation, and leads knowledge, capacity-development and learning services supporting resilient reef ecosystems and communities.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and policy support across UNDP’s Global Fund for Coral Reefs portfolio
  • Manage delivery of the global project and advise country programmes on reef conservation and sustainable financing
  • Develop policy positions, technical guidance and partnerships with governments, donors, financial institutions and civil society
  • Mobilise grant, private-equity and debt financing for coral-reef investment opportunities
  • Lead implementation and learning for the REEF+ knowledge-management programme
  • Prepare programme reports, communications and training that demonstrate environmental and socioeconomic results

Role Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in marine science, environmental sciences, economics or business studies specialising in environment and development, or a related field
  • Bachelor’s degree in the listed fields with two additional years of qualifying experience may substitute for an advanced degree
  • At least seven years of experience in marine and coastal conservation, management and financing in developing countries, or nine years with a bachelor’s degree
  • At least five years of experience developing internationally financed projects and programmes
  • At least five years of experience with coral-nation or SIDS coral-reef conservation policy development and implementation
  • Excellent English-language writing, presentation and communication skills
  • Eligible under UNDP’s Tier 0, 1 or 2 application process

Desired Criteria

  • Experience connecting natural-resource issues with the sustainable-development agenda
  • Experience in conservation finance
  • Experience with multilateral, bilateral or regional environmental funds
  • Experience establishing strategic long-term partnerships
  • Experience with the Global Environment Facility, Green Climate Fund or Global Fund for Coral Reefs
  • Experience managing projects in an international organisation or knowledge of UNDP policies and procedures
