GHG Accounting Specialist

Provides technical quality assurance for greenhouse-gas accounting in FAO evaluations of climate and land-use projects. The specialist reviews AFOLU estimates, compares accounting tools, resolves methodological gaps, develops guidance and training, and aligns project analysis with IPCC standards and national reporting.

Department: Office of Evaluation

• Guide selection, application and interpretation of greenhouse-gas accounting tools across evaluations
• Compare accounting approaches and harmonise inputs, emission factors and scenario assumptions
• Review and validate project greenhouse-gas estimates against IPCC guidelines
• Identify methodological errors, data gaps and non-AFOLU emission sources and recommend corrections
• Develop standardised documentation, decision logs and methodological guidance
• Train evaluators and consultants and provide technical helpdesk support
• Advise on alignment of project estimates with national inventories, transparency reporting and climate commitments

• Advanced university degree in environmental science, climate change, natural-resource management, forestry, agronomy, agricultural economics or a related field, or a bachelor’s degree with two additional years of relevant experience
• At least seven years of relevant experience in greenhouse-gas accounting, carbon-flux estimation or climate-mitigation assessment focused on AFOLU
• Practical experience with at least two of EX-ACT, IPCC Inventory Software and NEXT
• Working knowledge of English at level C
