Job Description

Supports IOM country offices with accounting compliance, financial analysis and risk-based reviews from Panama. The associate evaluates accounts, transactions and reporting against IOM policies and standards; resolves exceptions with finance teams; strengthens controls and month-end processes; and trains colleagues to improve timely, accurate financial management across assigned offices.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Provide accounting, financial and project guidance to assigned country offices
  • Evaluate finance and resource-management performance and coordinate recommendations with supervisors
  • Review accounts, monitor office responses and follow up unresolved issues
  • Analyze trial balances and accounting returns for validity, completeness and compliance
  • Identify exceptions and recommend corrective actions and internal-control improvements
  • Monitor month-end procedures, clearing accounts and payroll postings
  • Train finance staff on IOM accounting and enterprise resource-planning systems
  • Maintain periodic checklist and project-review records in SharePoint

Role Requirements

  • High school diploma with six years of relevant professional experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Management with four years
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, IPSAS or IFRS, and internal controls
  • Fluency in English, oral and written

Desired Criteria

  • Certified Public Accountant qualification or equivalent
  • Experience in audit
  • Knowledge of UN and bilateral donor financial rules and procedures
