Job Description

Strengthens compliance with international public-sector accounting standards and coordinates accurate monthly, quarterly and annual closure and reporting. The role develops accounting policy, oversees specialized accounting areas and financial controls, supports audits, improves ERP and automated reporting tools, and builds the financial-management capacity of business units across UNFPA.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Develop accounting policies, procedures and guidance that maintain IPSAS compliance
  • Implement revised accounting standards and conduct validation, reconciliation and data-quality reviews
  • Lead specialized accounting areas including inventory, employee benefits, intangible assets and leases
  • Design second-line financial controls and corrective actions for high-risk reporting areas
  • Coordinate monthly, quarterly and annual accounts closure activities
  • Prepare financial statements, statutory reports and management reporting outputs
  • Liaise with auditors and coordinate responses, evidence and recommendation tracking
  • Improve ERP features, automated reports, mapping logic and financial-management processes

Role Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in accounting, financial reporting or a related discipline, or a CPA or CA designation with a bachelor's degree
  • At least five years of experience in accounting or financial reporting
  • Demonstrated experience preparing financial statements, analysing financial data and reconciling accounts
  • Sound understanding of IPSAS or IFRS
  • Experience with financial modules of ERP systems
  • Experience translating business requirements into specifications, testing system reports, supporting user acceptance testing and validating data or mapping outputs
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, engagement, presentation and writing skills
  • Fluency in English

Desired Criteria

  • Experience with Oracle-based financial systems
  • Experience drafting accounting policies, guidance documents or technical accounting analyses
