Job Description

Supports the Justice and Corrections Service's substantive work on rule of law, justice and corrections in peace operations. The intern will research legal and correctional reform issues, contribute to project and policy materials, coordinate meetings with partners and Member States, assist peace-operation desk officers, and prepare briefings, records and public-information products.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Support justice and corrections projects through research, analysis, case studies, background papers and administrative coordination
  • Coordinate meetings with partners and Member States and prepare agendas, briefing papers and summary notes
  • Contribute research and analysis on legal, judicial and correctional reform to inform JCS policy and guidance
  • Research global and country-level developments relevant to the Justice and Corrections Service
  • Support desk officers working with specific peace operations
  • Accompany JCS staff to meetings with Permanent Missions, Secretariat offices and multilateral bodies
  • Prepare meeting notes, summaries and action points for internal and external meetings
  • Prepare public-information, social-media and presentation materials for senior JCS staff

Role Requirements

  • Enrolment in or completion of a graduate programme, or enrolment in or completion of the final academic year of a first university degree programme at minimum bachelor's level
  • A field of study closely related to the internship
  • Good knowledge of standard software applications including MS Word, MS PowerPoint and MS Teams
  • Fluency in spoken and written English

Desired Criteria

  • Knowledge of an additional official UN language
