Job Description

Leads UNICEF Ecuador’s programme pillar on climate change, WASH and emergency preparedness, advancing climate-resilient, risk-informed and sustainable services for children. The role provides strategic and technical leadership to strengthen national and local systems, mobilise partnerships and financing, and embed child rights in climate action, disaster risk reduction and programme delivery.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Lead the programme pillar on climate change, WASH and emergency preparedness
  • Provide strategic and technical leadership to strengthen national and subnational systems and climate-responsive services
  • Advance climate-resilient, risk-informed WASH solutions and disaster preparedness for children
  • Develop and manage programmes, optimise programme funds and monitor results
  • Build national and local capacity and apply rights-based and results-based programme management
  • Coordinate with government, financial institutions, private sector, civil society and other partners
  • Lead and supervise teams while advancing advocacy, partnerships and financing for climate action

Role Requirements

  • Advanced university degree at master's level or equivalent in environmental, chemical or civil engineering, architecture, social or economic sciences, public policy, social policy, social development, community development or a related field
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in WASH, climate change and disaster risk reduction, social policy, planning and management or finances
  • Fluency in Spanish and English
  • Child rights-based and results-based approach
  • Knowledge of human rights, gender equality and diversity awareness

Desired Criteria

  • Knowledge of another official UN language
  • Experience in security management training and donor relations with international financial institutions
  • Experience working in a developing country
  • Emergency-response familiarity
  • Experience in a UN system agency or organization
  • Country-level experience in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts
