Job Description

WHO seeks a national solar-energy consultant to assess and design resilient solar systems for health facilities in Sudan. The consultant will collect and analyse facility energy data, prepare technical designs, specifications and procurement documents, and monitor installation, commissioning, safeguards and long-term maintenance while training facility staff.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Coach field investigators and ensure quality of primary data collection and analysis at identified health facilities
  • Conduct or supervise energy-health needs assessments, including electricity demand, medical equipment and water-system requirements
  • Develop techno-economic analyses, solar PV and battery designs, cost estimates, specifications and bills of quantities
  • Prepare procurement documentation and advise WHO on suitable procurement approaches for solar systems and related equipment
  • Monitor installation and commissioning, train facility staff, and document progress, variations and implementation problems

Role Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, renewable energy or a related field
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in solar energy systems of similar sizes
  • Proven expertise preparing tender technical documents and supervising solar-energy projects of similar size
  • Fluent knowledge of English
  • Medical certificate of fitness for work

Desired Criteria

  • Advanced university degree or specialization focused on renewable energy systems
  • Experience with solar electrification of health-care facilities and hospitals
  • Experience with WHO, other UN agencies or national development organizations
  • Knowledge of climate-resilient energy practices and technologies

  • Frequent travel to states is required according to the implementation plan
