Job Description

UNIDO seeks a national coordinator to deliver skills-for-decent-employment work for Zambia’s artisanal and small-scale mining sector in Kitwe. Working with the Lead Technical Advisor and project team, the post coordinates provincial delivery, partner engagement, capacity-building, contractor work, asset management, outreach and monthly reporting across Copperbelt and North-Western provinces.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Review project work plans and provide operational-planning and resource-needs input for Copperbelt and North-Western provinces
  • Oversee day-to-day execution of provincial project activities in line with the theory of change and logical framework
  • Coordinate short-term consultants, experts, service providers and provincial counterparts
  • Manage project equipment and assets in the province
  • Liaise with local beneficiaries to build and maintain project visibility and trust
  • Support capacity-building activities for local training centres, CSOs and government offices
  • Provide monthly updates and provincial inputs to progress and annual reports

Role Requirements

  • Only nationals or permanent residents of the country of the duty station are considered eligible
  • Advanced university degree in business administration, social sciences, project/programme management, engineering or other relevant discipline
  • At least five years of professional experience coordinating development or technical-cooperation programmes or projects at national level
  • Experience evaluating needs, conditions and problems of the Copperbelt and North-Western provinces or a similar province or region in Zambia
  • Experience liaising with local government, community organizations, training institutions or the private sector at provincial or district level
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Fluency and/or working knowledge of Bemba

Desired Criteria

  • Experience or knowledge of development agencies, donor communities, private sectors, government and relevant institutions in the country or similar country in the region
  • Experience working with government and development agencies in the province and in Zambia
  • Experience coordinating work with consultants, service providers or contractors
  • Experience in the artisanal and small-scale mining sector or extractives industry
  • Experience working with UN agencies or international development organizations

Additional Information

  • Inter-provincial travel across Copperbelt and North-Western provinces and, as required, other project provinces and Luapula province
  • Appointment is limited to the specified project or projects only and does not carry any expectation of renewal
