Job Description

Coordinates UNIDO's cashew food-safety project in The Gambia, translating sanitary and phytosanitary standards into implementation. The coordinator manages planning, monitoring, reporting, procurement and stakeholder engagement with government, quality-infrastructure institutions and private-sector partners to strengthen food safety, export competitiveness and sustainable cashew value chains.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed project work plans and budgets and design monitoring and evaluation tools
  • Coordinate national implementation, quality control and monitoring of project activities
  • Liaise with government counterparts and provide updates, financial reports and problem resolution
  • Coordinate terms of reference and technical specifications for consultants, contractors and procurement
  • Coordinate monthly, quarterly, annual and final programme reporting
  • Maintain partnerships with national institutions, private sector and UN project partners

Role Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in economics, sciences, agro-industries, environment or a relevant discipline, or a first-level degree or advanced technical college diploma with five additional years of relevant experience
  • At least five years of professional experience coordinating national development or technical-cooperation programmes or projects
  • Experience assessing country needs, conditions and problems
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Nationality or permanent residence in the country of the duty station

Desired Criteria

  • Knowledge of development agencies, donor communities, private sector and government institutions in Gambia or the region
  • Fluency or working knowledge of a local language
