Job Description
Provide legal research, advice and drafting support to the General Legal Division of the Office of Legal Affairs in New York. The temporary P-4 post addresses contracts, procurement, administrative law, claims, peacekeeping and organisational accountability; reviews legal instruments and agreements; supports litigation and appeals; and prepares legal opinions, background papers and reports for United Nations organs and officials.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Research and draft legal advice and memoranda on contracts, procurement and administrative law
- Conduct legal research and prepare studies, briefs, reports and correspondence
- Review legal documents and identify issues and inconsistencies
- Draft legal opinions on public and private international-law matters
- Draft and analyse contracts and agreements and support dispute settlement
- Assist representation before tribunals and administrative proceedings
- Prepare appeals of United Nations Dispute Tribunal judgments
Role Requirements
- Advanced degree in law, or a first-level law degree with qualifying experience
- Admission to practise law or qualification to practise law in a United Nations Member State
- At least seven years of progressively responsible legal experience including legal analysis, research and writing
- English at UN Level III in reading, writing, listening and speaking
Desired Criteria
- Experience in administrative-law litigation
- Experience practising law in an international intergovernmental organisation
