Job Description
Provides senior legal advice on IOM's institutional law, governance, status and international relationships. The officer leads complex legal analysis, supports negotiations and governing bodies, and supervises legal colleagues to keep organisational instruments and operations aligned with international law.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Lead legal work on institutional-law matters within the Office of Legal Affairs
- Advise on IOM's mandate, governance, privileges and immunities
- Research public international law and prepare legal opinions and studies
- Draft and negotiate host-country agreements and related correspondence
- Support meetings of IOM governing bodies
- Review organisational rules, policies and procedures for legal consistency
- Supervise and coordinate assigned legal officers
Role Requirements
- Master's degree or equivalent in International Law or a related field with seven years of relevant experience, or bachelor's degree with nine years
- At least five years of public-international-law advice within an international organisation, preferably the UN system
- Experience with international organisations' status, privileges, immunities, governance, mandate and operations
- Knowledge of public international law and institutional law
- Fluency in spoken and written English
Desired Criteria
- Knowledge of international humanitarian law or international human rights law
- Skills in negotiations with governments
