Leads the IAEA Legislative Assistance Programme, advising Member States on international and national nuclear law. The officer plans assistance, drafts legal opinions and legislation advice, manages technical-cooperation projects, delivers training and guides colleagues to ensure consistent, timely legal support.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, monitor and evaluate the Legislative Assistance Programme
  • Advise on international nuclear legal instruments, safety standards and security guidance
  • Review and support drafting of national nuclear legislation
  • Develop country assistance workplans with Member State officials
  • Prepare legal studies, briefs, opinions and recommendations
  • Organize and teach nuclear-law seminars, workshops and courses
  • Represent the Office of Legal Affairs on missions and at events
  • Lead, train and mentor staff delivering legislative assistance

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor, advanced law degree or equivalent higher degree
  • Admission to a national bar or equivalent
  • At least seven years of relevant experience, including several years internationally
  • Proven national nuclear-legislation drafting and review ability
  • Experience interpreting and applying international legal instruments, particularly in nuclear law
  • Excellent written and spoken English
