Job Description

The IAEA seeks an intern in Seibersdorf to support research on environmentally sustainable phytosanitary treatments for fruit flies. The intern will maintain fruit-fly colonies and diets, assist cold-, hot-water and irradiation experiments, dissect infested fruit, record results and perform thermocouple calibration measurements for treatment research at the laboratory.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Maintain fruit-fly colonies for phytosanitary-treatment research
  • Prepare larval and adult diets
  • Evaluate cold, hot-water and irradiation treatments
  • Dissect infested fruit used in treatment experiments
  • Record experimental data
  • Perform thermocouple calibration measurements

Role Requirements

  • University degree in biology or agricultural sciences
  • Experience rearing fruit flies of economic importance
  • Minimum age of 20 and at least three years of full-time university study toward a first degree
  • Good written and spoken English
  • No previous participation in the IAEA internship programme
  • Two signed letters of recommendation

Desired Criteria

  • Fluency in another IAEA official language is an asset
