Job Description

WFP seeks an intern in Bassikounou to support animal-production and pastoral-livelihoods work under Mauritania’s resilience programme. The intern will help deliver livestock-fattening activities, follow beneficiaries, collect field data, support livestock-keeper training and veterinary-kit planning, work with community groups and veterinary services, and prepare programme reports.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Support design and delivery of sheep and cattle fattening activities
  • Follow beneficiaries engaged in livestock activities
  • Identify needs for animal feed and animal health
  • Support awareness campaigns on good livestock practices
  • Collect field data on fattening activities
  • Update databases and analyse technical and economic performance
  • Support livestock-keeper training and community organisations
  • Prepare mission reports and periodic programme reports

Role Requirements

  • Recently graduated in a relevant field under WFP internship eligibility criteria within the six months before application
  • Bachelor's, master's or engineering degree in animal production, zootechnics, livestock sciences, veterinary medicine, rural development or a related field
  • Ability to travel and work at the internship duty station
  • French writing skills

Desired Criteria

  • Internship or work experience in livestock is an asset
  • Knowledge of Mauritanian pastoral and agropastoral systems is desirable
  • Arabic and national-language knowledge is an advantage
