Job Description

Supports sustainable aquaculture value-chain development under FAO’s Blue Transformation agenda. The role contributes to policy guidance, project design, technical advice, stakeholder consultations, capacity development and analysis of global fish trade and markets for national and regional partners.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Support policy guidelines and best practices for sustainable aquaculture value chains
  • Coordinate policy dialogues, expert workshops and consultations with government and non-governmental stakeholders
  • Develop Blue Transformation project proposals and provide technical support to their implementation
  • Build and maintain online knowledge platforms and communications materials
  • Design capacity-development interventions for value-chain stakeholders and institutions
  • Support pilot-country aquaculture value-chain processes and complementary strategies
  • Analyse global fish-trade and market data and contemporary value-chain issues
  • Develop and disseminate technical guidance and knowledge products

Role Requirements

  • Master's degree or equivalent in fisheries, aquaculture, food sciences, biology, management or a related discipline
  • One year of relevant experience in aquaculture, aquatic food value chains, trade or markets
  • Working knowledge of English and intermediate knowledge of another FAO official language
  • Age 32 or younger on 31 December of the application year

Desired Criteria

  • Experience across multiple locations, countries or regions, especially developing and transition economies
  • Experience in aquaculture technology, aquatic food safety, nutrition processing, value addition or loss reduction
  • Experience organising international meetings, seminars or training
  • Experience preparing and editing technical or scientific documents
  • Experience building partnerships with UN agencies, NGOs, donors and government institutions
