Intern, Special Procedures

OHCHR's Thematic and Special Procedures Division offers internships supporting independent human rights mandate holders across three branches: Equality and Non-Discrimination, Rule of Law and Civic Space, and Development/Economic/Social/Cultural Rights. Interns conduct legal research, draft country assessments and communications, support Human Rights Council sessions, and assist with meeting organization. Assignments run for an initial 3 months, renewable up to 6 months.

• Conduct thematic and country-specific human rights research, including analysis of international law and jurisprudence
• Assist in preparing official country visit documents and human rights assessments
• Analyze cases and complaints addressed to mandate holders and draft response letters
• Collect information and prepare briefing notes, statements, and meeting summaries
• Attend Human Rights Council sessions and support related activities and events
• Assist in organizing meetings, seminars, and consultations with civil society stakeholders
• Translate documents as needed

• Enrolled in or graduate of a Bachelor's or Master's programme in law, political science, international relations, social sciences, or related field
• Fluency in English

• Knowledge of an additional UN official language is an advantage
• No professional work experience required

• Unpaid internship; interns cover travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses
