Job Description

Advises MSF Operational Centre Amsterdam country programmes on humanitarian analysis and advocacy across selected contexts and themes. The advisor interprets political and operational dynamics, helps teams turn analysis into action, develops advocacy plans and briefings, coaches humanitarian-affairs colleagues and strengthens organizational learning, partnerships and strategic decisions.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Advise and coach country teams on humanitarian affairs, analysis, advocacy and positioning
  • Monitor political, social, humanitarian and operational dynamics and identify risks and opportunities
  • Support teams to address positioning dilemmas with practical recommendations
  • Develop and implement humanitarian analysis and advocacy plans
  • Produce and edit briefing papers, reports, analyses and positioning documents
  • Advise country management, headquarters operations and medical teams
  • Coach country-level humanitarian-affairs staff and develop training
  • Represent MSF in external meetings and forums and maintain stakeholder networks

Role Requirements

  • Master's degree in law, social sciences, political sciences or a relevant field
  • At least 7 years of professional experience in humanitarian affairs
  • MSF humanitarian-affairs experience
  • In-depth knowledge of humanitarian-affairs factors in MSF operating contexts
  • Fluency in English and another relevant language
  • Ability and willingness to travel to MSF projects and teams when needed

Desired Criteria

  • Languages spoken in MSF countries of operation are highly desirable

Additional Information

  • 32 hours per week (80%) with approximately 20% travel to country programmes
  • One-year maternity cover
  • Preferred location is Amsterdam; London, Berlin, Amman and Nairobi are possible alternatives
  • No relocation support; preference for applicants based where MSF has an established contracting office
