Humanitarian Affairs Intern

The Humanitarian Affairs Intern supports the United Nations Mine Action Service in Geneva on advocacy, humanitarian disarmament and mine-action coordination. The unpaid, full-time internship researches explosive-ordnance impacts, drafts policy and communications materials, supports a global mine-action conference, monitors Human Rights Council deliberations, and prepares briefings for colleagues.

• Support organization of the International Meeting of Mine Action National Directors and United Nations Advisers
• Research and draft documents on UNMAS advocacy priorities and humanitarian disarmament conventions
• Analyse information on explosive-ordnance impacts and mitigation efforts
• Prepare analyses, letters, background notes, summary records and report inputs
• Monitor Human Rights Council deliberations and prepare verbal and written briefing notes
• Prepare social-media posts and support day-to-day office administration

• Be enrolled in or have completed a graduate programme, or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree
• Degree studies must relate to the job opening
• Computer literacy in standard software applications including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• English and French are required
• No professional work experience is required

• Interns are responsible for travel, visa, accommodation and living expenses.
• Applicants who have already served six months as UN Common System interns are ineligible.
