Job Description

Leads UN Women China’s country programme and partnerships under the UNSDCF and UN Women Strategic Plan. The D1 Head of Office directs results-based programming, UN coordination and advocacy; represents UN Women with government, civil society, donors and the UN system; mobilises resources; manages a 25–30-person team; drives knowledge and innovation; and oversees personnel, security and resilience.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the country office’s strategic direction and Country Strategic Note
  • Manage country-office operations, work planning, budget and compliance
  • Serve on the UN Country Team and integrate gender equality into UNSDCF processes
  • Represent UN Women and lead gender-equality advocacy strategies
  • Lead resource-mobilisation strategies and donor accountability
  • Oversee knowledge management, innovation and capacity building
  • Oversee safety, security and well-being of personnel, programmes and assets

Role Requirements

  • Master’s degree in international development, public administration, public policy or relevant social science fields
  • At least 15 years of progressively responsible international development experience combining strategic and managerial leadership
  • International gender and women’s-issues programming experience
  • Experience leading and coaching staff in international settings
  • Fluency in English

Desired Criteria

  • Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable
  • Project or programme management certification is an added advantage
