Job Description

FAO is recruiting a Fishery Officer in Rome for its Fisheries and Aquaculture Division. The role advances aquatic-food value chains through policy and project support, technical guidance on processing and loss reduction, resource-utilisation methodologies, capacity building and collaboration with Members, industry, international organisations and fisheries governance bodies.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Support policy guidelines and best practices for aquatic-food value-chain development under Blue Transformation
  • Plan and manage projects that improve aquatic-food value-chain efficiency and sustainability
  • Provide guidance on aquatic-food processing, value-added products and food-loss reduction
  • Develop and implement methodologies for aquatic-resource utilisation and economic, social and environmental analysis
  • Contribute to capacity building on aquatic-food resource utilisation
  • Support fisheries committees and collaborate with FAO units and external organisations on aquatic-food value chains

Role Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in agricultural or fishery economics, food science or technology, or another field relevant to food value chains
  • Five years of relevant experience in food value-chain development and related fields
  • Working knowledge of English and intermediate knowledge of another FAO official language

Desired Criteria

  • Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions
  • Experience in aquatic food value chains and aquatic-resource utilisation
  • Experience in developing countries and countries in transition
  • Experience organising international meetings, seminars and training courses
  • Experience in policy and technical guidance for aquatic-food value-chain development
