Job Description

Provides financial management, accounting, treasury and compliance support for UNICEF Malawi, enabling reliable programme delivery and operational stewardship. The role plans and monitors budgets, processes and reconciles transactions, manages cash and risks, strengthens internal controls, and contributes to reporting, audits and capacity building for accountable resource use.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Support financial planning, budgeting, monitoring and reporting
  • Prepare and implement budgets and monitor expenditures
  • Process financial transactions and maintain accounting records
  • Reconcile accounts and contribute to period-end closure
  • Review financial reports and implementing-partner transactions to identify risks
  • Support cash forecasting, bank monitoring and availability of programme funds
  • Contribute to audit, donor and statutory reporting and capacity-building activities

Role Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Auditing, Public Administration or a related field
  • At least one year of relevant experience in audit and investigation or financial management
  • Experience with budgeting, payment processing, reconciliation, financial reporting, treasury, risk review and compliance monitoring
  • Fluency in English
  • Open to Malawian nationals only

Desired Criteria

  • Experience with UNICEF, UN agencies, international organizations or public-sector finance
  • Experience with database packages, web-based management systems or ERP systems, preferably SAP financial modules
  • Familiarity with IPSAS-based accounting, donor funding management and financial compliance
  • Country-level experience in development, fragile settings or humanitarian contexts
