Job Description

This unpaid internship with the Field Operations Finance Division in New York supports financial management for peace operations. The intern researches mandate and expenditure history, checks resource requirements against rules and mandates, contributes to budget preparation, monitors implementation and variances, and produces financial information from databases and spreadsheets.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Research and compile mandate, expenditure, strategy, economic and social-context information for budget submissions
  • Check resource requirements against applicable rules, regulations and Security Council or General Assembly mandates
  • Contribute to budget preparation by consolidating and presenting programmatic and financial information
  • Monitor implementation of UN budgets and identify variances between approved budgets and actual expenditure
  • Generate financial information using databases and spreadsheets

Role Requirements

  • Be enrolled in or have completed a graduate programme, or the final academic year of a bachelor's programme in business or public administration, finance or a related area
  • Be a final-year bachelor’s, master’s or Ph.D. student or graduate
  • Field of study closely related to the internship
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Fluency in spoken and written English

  • Experience in data analytics or a related area
