The UN RCS Economist in Nairobi provides economic analysis and policy support on sustainable development, economic transformation and SDG financing. The post informs Resident Coordinator and UN Country Team decisions, contributes to country programming cycles, develops partnerships with government and finance actors, and advances knowledge sharing, data visualization, innovation and foresight.

• Research, analyze and present economic, social and sustainable-development data, trends and good practices
• Conduct economic and policy analysis to identify challenges, opportunities and policy options for SDG progress
• Prepare policy papers, analytical notes, briefing materials, reports and knowledge products on economic transformation and SDG financing
• Support UNCT engagement with government, UN entities, international financial institutions, private sector, academia and civil society
• Contribute economic and financing analysis to the Common Country Analysis, UNSDCF, joint programmes and annual reports
• Monitor development and financing initiatives and identify collaboration opportunities and catalytic financing options
• Document lessons, facilitate knowledge exchange and use data visualization to support planning and decision-making

• Advanced university degree in Economics
• A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree
• Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience in economic research and analysis, macroeconomic or socioeconomic policy, applied economics, development economics or a related development-cooperation area
• Experience conducting economic or policy analysis and translating development trends and data into policy options, recommendations or analytical products
• English at UN Level III and Kiswahili at UN Level II in reading, writing, listening and speaking
• Open to nationals of Kenya only

• Experience in SDG financing, development finance, public finance or innovative financing approaches
• Experience supporting strategic planning, policy development or financing solutions with government institutions or development partners
• Experience with multiple stakeholders including government, private sector, civil society, academia or development partners
• Experience applying inclusive approaches addressing gender equality, youth, persons with disabilities or leave-no-one-behind principles
• Experience in partnerships or resource mobilization in development cooperation
• Experience in UN inter-agency coordination or multi-stakeholder mechanisms
• Experience in knowledge management or analytical and policy products
• Two or more years of data analytics experience
