Job Description

Provides UNDP Malaysia with strategic economic-policy leadership, advising country programmes, government counterparts and partners on inclusive growth, SDG progress and development finance. The role leads economic analysis, policy products, development-finance work, partnerships and regional knowledge contributions, translating evidence into programme concepts and development solutions.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Advise country-office management on evidence-based programme development and implementation
  • Lead macroeconomic, sectoral and political-economy analysis and provide policy advice
  • Lead Development Finance Assessment work and innovative financing service offers
  • Produce economic, development and policy outlooks and lead the National Human Development Report
  • Translate analysis into programme concepts, partnerships and resource-mobilisation pipelines
  • Convene policy dialogue with government, development partners, civil society and the private sector
  • Represent UNDP in economic-policy forums and develop strategic relationships with government, academia and think tanks

Role Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Economics or related field, or bachelor’s degree in Economics or related field with two additional years of qualifying experience
  • At least seven years of relevant experience with a master’s degree or nine years with a bachelor’s degree
  • Extensive research and policy-level analysis experience
  • Policy, advisory and advocacy experience
  • Experience preparing policy briefs and guidance notes for senior policymakers
  • Fluency in English and Bahasa Melayu

Desired Criteria

  • PhD in Economics
  • Experience in strategic visioning and advanced analytical work
  • Experience leading an economics, research or policy-advisory function
  • Experience with SDGs, stakeholder analysis and engagement
  • Experience using data and statistical-analysis software
  • Experience in Asia and the Pacific or across countries
  • Working knowledge of another UN language
