Economist – Development Strategy

Provides economic analysis for UNDP's Inclusive Growth Team and its BOLD advisory initiative across Asia and the Pacific. The economist produces growth, labour-market and inequality diagnostics, supports government engagement and Country Office delivery, and turns data, country experience and research into policy briefs, technical guidance and regional knowledge products.

• Conduct economic-growth, structural-transformation, labour-market, productivity and inequality assessments
• Apply quantitative and qualitative methods to produce diagnostics for government strategy processes
• Develop growth and inclusion models, microdata analysis and sectoral assessments
• Prepare technical papers, data-driven policy briefs and background notes for senior economists and government counterparts
• Support Country Offices with capability assessments and economic diagnostics
• Coordinate analytical inputs, reporting and documentation with Country Offices, research partners and internal teams
• Maintain datasets and analytical tools and synthesise country lessons into regional guidance

• Advanced degree in Economics, Applied Economics, Statistics, Public Policy or a related field, or a bachelor's degree in those fields with two additional years of qualifying experience
• At least seven years of relevant experience in applied economic analysis, economic research or development policy with a master's degree, or nine years with a bachelor's degree
• Experience in growth diagnostics, labour-market analysis or inclusion and inequality assessments
• Experience with quantitative analysis, microeconomic datasets or macroeconomic modelling
• Experience working with governments, international organisations, research institutes or development partners
• Fluency in English

• PhD in Economics or a related field
• Previous UNDP or UN system experience
• Familiarity with development challenges and policy contexts in Asia and the Pacific
• Experience preparing technical guidance on inclusive growth analysis and job-creation diagnostics
