Job Description
Provides economic analysis and strategic advice to the UN Resident Coordinator and Country Team on SDG acceleration, sustainable economic transformation and financing in China. The role coordinates evidence, partnerships and integrated programming, translating national policy and global development trends into policy options, advocacy and investment-oriented UN action.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Analyse SDG progress, economic transformation and national policy developments to advise the Resident Coordinator and Country Team
- Develop policy options and advocacy priorities on SDG acceleration, green transition, digital transformation and sustainable finance
- Coordinate UN Country Team analysis, flagship reports and programming around SDG acceleration and financing
- Research economic and policy trends and recommend responses to emerging development issues
- Build partnerships with government, international financial institutions, the private sector and development partners
- Support integrated country analyses, cooperation frameworks, joint programmes and results-group workplans
- Lead knowledge generation and data visualisation to inform planning, decision-making and reporting
Role Requirements
- Advanced university degree in economics, or a first-level degree with two additional years of qualifying experience
- At least seven years of progressively responsible experience in sustainable development policy, economic research and analysis in development cooperation or a related area
- Knowledge of economics
- English and Chinese at UN Level II
- Open to nationals of China only
Desired Criteria
- Data analytics, business analytics or data science study
- Development economics and national or international development experience
- Knowledge of SDGs, China’s 15th Five-Year Plan and national policy developments
- Understanding of SDG financing
- Experience coordinating multi-stakeholder processes
- Experience using statistical analysis software

Additional Information
- Appointment is for one year and renewal depends on post availability, funding, budget approval or mandate extension
- National Professional Officer candidates must be Chinese nationals and be recruited in-country or within commuting distance
