Job Description

Leads coordination for sustainable-development programmes and investment platforms across the Sahel and Horn of Africa. The officer supports Resident Coordinators and UN Country Teams with planning, financing and partnership advice, connects humanitarian, development and peace efforts, and guides analysis that strengthens collective action, investment readiness and flagship delivery.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Advance integrated flagship programmes and investment platforms through strategic planning, coordination, financing activation and partnership development
  • Steer planning, coordination and partnership-building for national, cross-border and cross-regional UN interventions
  • Coordinate information sharing among Resident Coordinator Offices and UN Country Teams
  • Advise Resident Coordinators on sustainable development, development emergencies, financing strategies and resource mobilisation
  • Provide leadership on food systems, education, energy transition, stabilisation and humanitarian-development-peace collaboration
  • Engage UN entities, governments, development partners, financial institutions and civil society
  • Analyse developments and synthesise findings for UN leadership and regional and country processes
  • Develop recommendations to strengthen integrated approaches and scale joint planning and programming

Role Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in business or public administration, sustainable development, social sciences, economics, law or a related area, or a first-level degree with two additional years of qualifying experience
  • At least ten years of progressively responsible experience in strategic planning, sustainable-development policy and programme development and management in development cooperation, crisis management or a related area
  • Experience with multi-stakeholder coordination in development-cooperation crisis settings
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams in sustainable development
  • Experience providing surge or emergency support in a development-cooperation context
  • English and French are required

Desired Criteria

  • Previous experience working with or advising senior United Nations officials
  • Experience in peacebuilding programming and financing
