Job Description
Leads UNODC’s Alternative Development Programme in Afghanistan, advancing sustainable livelihoods, socioeconomic development and rule-of-law outcomes in areas affected by opium cultivation. The role directs programme delivery, partnerships, budgets and resource mobilisation while developing scalable models, strengthening market access and using evidence to support coordination with national and international stakeholders.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Coordinate implementation of alternative-development activities in Afghanistan
- Guide project teams on planning, monitoring and quality assurance
- Build partnerships that improve market access and economic opportunities
- Manage budgets, reporting and compliance requirements
- Lead fundraising, coordination and representation with stakeholders
Role Requirements
- Advanced degree in agriculture, rural development, sustainable development, environmental management, social sciences, economics, business administration, international development, public administration or international relations
- At least five years of experience in alternative development, sustainable livelihoods, rural development or socioeconomic development
- Experience in value-chain development, market systems and rural market access
- English is required
Desired Criteria
- Experience in fragile rural contexts, counternarcotics, donor engagement, gender mainstreaming, team leadership or data analytics is desirable
