Job Description

UNIDO’s Kitwe/Solwezi driver provides transport and vehicle support for the skills-for-decent-employment project serving Zambia’s artisanal and small-scale mining sector. Operating from Kitwe or Solwezi, the post schedules field missions, inspects and maintains vehicles, records mileage and fuel, upholds UN security standards, and supports training, outreach and project logistics.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Plan daily vehicle scheduling and field-mission logistics for the Kitwe and Solwezi office
  • Drive project personnel and authorized people safely on field missions to ASM sites
  • Inspect the project vehicle and arrange professional servicing, maintenance and repair
  • Log official travel, daily mileage, fuel consumption and oil changes
  • Ensure vehicle security and compliance with UN and UNIDO security and safety protocols
  • Support transport and logistics for outreach, training and capacity-building events
  • Report vehicle usage, maintenance status, accidents and security incidents

Role Requirements

  • Only nationals or permanent residents of the country of the duty station are considered eligible
  • Completed secondary education
  • Driver's training with a valid driver's licence
  • At least one year of working experience as a driver
  • Good or safe driving record
  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair
  • Good knowledge of the Copperbelt and North-Western provinces and current road and highway conditions
  • Proficiency in map reading and land navigation systems
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Fluency and/or working knowledge of Bemba

Desired Criteria

  • Experience driving government officials, other UN staff or diplomatic staff
