Job Description
The Disaster Risk Reduction Specialist supports WHO emergency preparedness and resilience work through risk analysis, contingency planning, coordination and capacity building. The assignment assesses health risks from hazards and climate events, monitors DRR initiatives, prepares technical products, convenes partners and advances community engagement as part of the UNV Humanitarian Emergency Response roster.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Collect and analyse disaster-risk, hazard and preparedness information
- Assess health risks from natural hazards, climate events and public-health emergencies
- Develop and monitor disaster-risk-reduction and resilience initiatives
- Contribute to contingency planning, risk assessments, simulations and training
- Coordinate with government, UN, NGO and partner stakeholders
- Organise health-sector workshops, consultations and capacity-building activities
- Prepare situation reports, briefing notes and technical materials
- Support awareness raising, community engagement and evaluation of DRR activities
Role Requirements
- At least seven years of experience in disaster risk reduction, emergency preparedness, humanitarian response or related fields
- Experience planning, implementing, monitoring or coordinating DRR and preparedness activities
- Experience conducting research, data collection, analysis and report writing
- Experience working with government institutions, UN agencies, NGOs, development partners or communities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Excellent written and spoken English
Desired Criteria
- Experience implementing the Sendai Framework, climate adaptation or emergency-response programmes
- Knowledge of early-warning systems or emergency operations
- Experience facilitating simulations, workshops or capacity-building
- Experience with monitoring and evaluation, GIS or knowledge management
- Experience with UN, humanitarian or disaster-management organisations
- Knowledge of local languages and duty-station contexts
