Director, Communicable Diseases Prevention, Control and Elimination

Lead PAHO's regional department for communicable-disease prevention, control and elimination from Washington, directing surveillance, One Health, antimicrobial-resistance and food-safety programmes; guiding Member States; advancing evidence and innovation; mobilising resources; and managing strategy, budgets and performance.

Department: Communicable Diseases Prevention, Control and Elimination Department

• Set regional strategy for communicable-disease prevention and elimination
• Lead the Disease Elimination Initiative across Member States
• Advance surveillance, epidemiology and evidence-based public-health policy
• Strengthen One Health, antimicrobial-resistance and food-safety systems
• Mobilise financial and technical resources through strategic partnerships
• Represent PAHO and advise Member States and regional institutions
• Direct departmental planning, budgets, people and performance

• University degree in health or social science and a master's degree in public health, epidemiology or a related field
• Fifteen years of national and international experience in progressively challenging communicable-disease management positions
• Experience developing and evaluating communicable-disease policies and programmes
• Experience applying epidemiological methods to surveillance and public-health programme planning and evaluation
• English and Spanish, with fluency in one and working knowledge of the other
