Job Description

Provides part-time technical leadership for UNDP Mongolia's circular-economy and waste-management work in Darkhan and Erdenet. The role develops coordination, recycling infrastructure and investment approaches, supports behaviour change and green jobs, and provides procurement, quality assurance, reporting and knowledge support for environmentally sound material-recovery systems.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Establish circular-economy coordination and a multi-stakeholder working group in pilot cities
  • Guide life-cycle thinking, circular-economy strategy and Extended Producer Responsibility roadmap development
  • Support composting and material-recovery facilities through public-private partnerships
  • Guide waste-recycling and disposal infrastructure investments in pilot cities
  • Design behaviour-change campaigns and monitor participation and contamination results
  • Support innovation labs, waste-reduction challenges and small-scale pilots
  • Provide technical procurement inputs and supervise contractor deliverables
  • Coordinate with municipal authorities, private-sector partners and informal waste workers

Role Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in environmental engineering, environmental management, waste management, circular economy, industrial ecology or related field, or bachelor’s degree in those fields with two additional years of experience
  • Bachelor’s-degree applicants need at least two years of relevant experience in waste management, circular economy, recycling or environmental management
  • Experience using computers, office software, web-based management systems and advanced spreadsheet and database packages
  • Fluency in English and Mongolian

Desired Criteria

  • Experience raising public awareness and changing behaviour on waste management through surveys and campaigns
  • Expertise in hazardous and solid waste management, including regulations and handling, treatment and disposal practices
  • Relevant professional certification or specialised training
