Leads UNICEF’s education programme in South Africa, directing education-economics, public-finance, equity and systems-strengthening work to improve learning outcomes for marginalized children. Summary of Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for UNICEF’s education programme
  • Direct education economics, public finance, equity analysis and systems strengthening
  • Lead programme development, planning and results-based management
  • Oversee programme management, monitoring and quality control
  • Provide technical advice and advocacy to advance education policy and financing reforms
  • Build partnerships and lead innovation, knowledge management and capacity building

Role Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Economics, Education Economics, Public Policy or Education Planning
  • At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in education policy, education economics, sector planning or public finance
  • Proven experience leading large, complex programmes at national or international level
  • Fluency in English

Desired Criteria

  • PhD in Economics, Econometrics, Development Economics or Education Management with a strong education-economics focus
  • Emergency or humanitarian experience
  • Country-level experience in development, fragile settings or humanitarian contexts
