Job Description

Supports FAO’s representation in Bhutan by coordinating country programmes, technical assistance and operational delivery. The assistant representative will work with government, UN agencies, donors and partners to develop agricultural initiatives, monitor projects, maintain sector data, prepare policy and programme proposals, and strengthen food-security outcomes for FAO beneficiary communities.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Liaise with government authorities, institutions and UN agencies on FAO activities
  • Promote FAO programmes and maintain communications tools and publications
  • Maintain country data on food, crops, livestock, forestry, fisheries and external aid
  • Contribute to technical, economic and policy studies and country development frameworks
  • Prepare programme and project proposals and monitor implementation against workplans
  • Train and supervise programme staff and support new agricultural initiatives

Role Requirements

  • National of the Kingdom of Bhutan
  • Advanced university degree in agriculture, agricultural economics, forestry, fisheries, natural resources, rural development, business administration and management, international relations or a related field
  • Three years of relevant experience in programming, planning and technical cooperation in food and agriculture or project implementation
  • Working knowledge of English and Dzongkha
