Job Description

UNODC seeks an international consultant to assess current and potential uses of artificial intelligence in Papua New Guinea’s judicial sector. The assignment will identify risks and capacity needs, conduct research and consultations, design a survey, analyse findings, and produce recommendations on responsible, ethical AI governance that preserves judicial integrity and public confidence.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Review literature, policies and emerging practices on artificial intelligence and the judiciary
  • Develop research methodology and data-collection tools
  • Design and administer a survey of judicial officers and court personnel
  • Conduct interviews with judicial, legal, academic, technology and government stakeholders
  • Prepare AI-governance recommendations and final outputs for UNODC and PNGCJE

Role Requirements

  • Advanced degree in law, public administration, public policy, information technology, criminology, governance or related field
  • At least 10 years of experience in legal research, judicial reform, governance, anti-corruption, justice-sector development or digital governance
  • Experience in judicial institutions and judicial ethics frameworks
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies and AI governance
  • Fluency in English

Desired Criteria

  • Experience in the Pacific region
  • Knowledge of another United Nations official language
