Job Description

Supports UN Women’s Gender Statistics Global Centre of Excellence in exploring ethical and responsible artificial intelligence for gender statistics. The volunteer will map international practice, assess opportunities and risks for the Centre and prepare analytical products on AI, data systems, human rights, gender equality and evidence-informed public policy.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Map international experiences using AI or data science for gender statistics and related themes
  • Prepare a comparative matrix covering 10 to 15 international cases
  • Draft an analytical synthesis on AI trends, opportunities and risks
  • Identify priority areas where AI can add value to the Centre's gender-statistics work
  • Assess technical limitations, algorithmic bias, representativeness and privacy risks
  • Develop a diagnostic document on AI opportunities, ethical principles and human-rights considerations
  • Identify strategic partnership opportunities for national statistical offices, academia and private-sector partners
  • Participate in technical coordination and feedback meetings with the Centre, Women Count and the Regional Office

Role Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in data science, artificial intelligence, statistics, engineering, economics, public policy or a related field
  • At least 1 year of proven experience using artificial intelligence for gender-responsive data generation, AI projects or data analysis applied to public policy, cooperation or development
  • Spanish and English language proficiency

Desired Criteria

  • Master's degree in data science, machine learning, technology studies or digital public policy
  • At least 1 year of proven experience systematising information systems based on AI-generated gender-responsive data
