Job Description
Leads the hands-on development and advancement of WHO Europe artificial-intelligence and machine-learning solutions. The role sets technical direction, builds scalable cloud-native applications and data pipelines, oversees AI delivery from design through monitoring, and mentors technical staff. It enables digital teams and operational partners to adopt reliable, ethical and effective AI capabilities across the Region.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Set priorities and workplans for AI and machine-learning initiatives
- Lead data-integration and AI-related automation activities
- Design and iterate AI prototypes into scalable solutions
- Oversee AI delivery from data acquisition and modelling through deployment and monitoring
- Guide development of internal and external applications
- Manage cloud-based AI and machine-learning workloads
- Lead and mentor AI and software professionals
- Promote ethical AI, data privacy, transparency and fairness
Role Requirements
- Advanced university degree in software engineering, computer science or a relevant discipline
- At least seven years of progressive relevant experience in software engineering and architecture
- Experience deploying AI models in the cloud and integrating generative AI solutions
- Experience developing automated analytical pipelines and AI/ML capabilities
- Experience managing complex applications and services
- Expert knowledge of English
Desired Criteria
- Certifications in DevOps, React, Python or related areas
- Intermediate knowledge of French, Russian or German
