Job Description
The CERN engineer maintains and develops real-time software for beam instrumentation while coordinating adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices. The role designs, tests and commissions reliable systems and deploys machine-learning solutions for diagnostics, predictive maintenance and signal analysis.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Maintain and improve beam-instrumentation software systems
- Design, develop, test and commission real-time software
- Gather requirements with operators and multidisciplinary experts
- Coordinate adoption of AI-assisted software-development practices
- Develop machine-learning solutions for diagnostics and predictive maintenance
- Refactor and safely recommission existing systems
- Share knowledge and mentor students or early-career colleagues
Role Requirements
- Master degree or doctorate in computer science, applied physics or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience
- Experience developing deterministic software in a real-time environment
- Experience applying artificial intelligence or machine learning to engineering, scientific or software-development challenges
- Basic knowledge of electronics-based digital acquisition hardware
- Spoken and written English or French with commitment to learn the other language
- Nationality of an eligible CERN Member State or Associate Member State
Desired Criteria
- Familiarity with large language models, AI-assisted software engineering or agent-based systems
