Advances CERN’s tape-storage platform through workload analysis, mathematical modelling and scheduling optimisation. The engineer develops production C++ and Linux software, evaluates metadata at scale and supports reliable operations for high-throughput scientific data storage.

• Analyse tape-storage metadata and workload patterns at scale
• Develop mathematical models and optimise scheduling algorithms
• Design, implement and test production software in C++ and Linux
• Visualise storage behaviour and evaluate system performance
• Support production operations, troubleshooting and user needs
• Contribute to reliable high-throughput storage for scientific data

• Nationality of a CERN Member or Associate Member State, subject to the stated temporary nationality exclusions
• Master’s degree with two to six years of professional experience since graduation, or PhD with no more than three years since graduation
• Candidates with only a bachelor’s degree are not eligible
• No previous CERN fellow or graduate contract
• Spoken and written English

• Experience with SQL, Git, Kubernetes, Grafana or Prometheus
• Knowledge of storage technologies
• Tape-storage experience is advantageous but not expected
